Manado Independent School (MIS) fostered a spirit of faith and community during its annual Week of Prayer, held March 4-8, 2024, in the MIS Auditorium. This enriching event brought together students, teachers, and community members in a shared pursuit of spiritual growth and unity.
The MIS Auditorium resonated with uplifting music throughout the week as students participated in prayer bands and reflective gatherings. Guided by the theme “Saved to Serve,” students and teachers explored the importance of solidarity and compassion within their Christian faith.
Reflecting on the week, Michiko Mawardi, an 11th grader, expressed gratitude for the messages shared by Pastor Prakash. “The Week of Prayer has been transformative for our school community and for me personally,” she said. “It deepened our faith journeys and strengthened the bonds that unite us as children of God. We all face challenges, but God’s plan is good. Let’s open our hearts and be filled with courage.”
The Week of Prayer aimed to nurture spiritual well-being. Uplifting sermons by Pastor Jacob Prakash, Ph.D. for elementary, middle, and high school students, and by his wife, Mrs. Elena Gonmei, Ph.D. for nursery, kindergarten, and first grade, encouraged participants to delve deeper into their faith and build meaningful connections with their peers. The sessions served as a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy and understanding in today’s world, drawing lessons from biblical stories.
“Each of us faces challenges,” Pastor Prakash said. “God calls everyone to make a positive difference. You might face opposition for standing up for what’s right, but remember, God has chosen you with a purpose: to serve and make a difference with the power He has given you. God works in miraculous ways.”
Complementing the week’s theme, a parenting webinar on Thursday, March 7th featured Pastor Prakash and Mrs. Gonmei discussing the vital role parents play in shaping their children’s character and spiritual growth. The seminar offered practical insights and biblical guidance to help parents navigate the challenges of raising children within a Christian school environment. As the Week of Prayer concludes, MIS remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing the hearts and minds of its students through faith, compassion, and unity.
