Air Conditioned Classrooms
- Air Conditioning is turned on in classrooms and offices one hour before scheduled classroom activities.
- It is turned off after school activities and after office hours.
- Air conditioners are routinely serviced every three months.
- Any air conditioning malfunction is reported to the GA manager for an immediate action.
Auditorium
The school auditorium is a multi-purpose hall that serves as a venue for school curricular or extracurricular activities and events. Facilities provided:
- Full Air Conditioning
- Sound System
- LCD Projectors, Band and other music equipment.
Cafeteria
The school cafeteria serves nutritious snacks and lunch. Snacks are served in the morning and afternoon every school day. Breakfast and dinner are also served for the Residence Hall occupants every day. Students using the cafeteria services must follow scheduled times of usage and the following rules and regulations:

- Enter the cafeteria and serving lines quietly and orderly.
- Avoid saving places in line for others.
- Avoid crowding around the table.
- Avoid making excessive noise or talking loudly.
- Avoid taking food and drinks out from the cafeteria.
- Cleanliness must be observed at all times.
- Return trays, plates, and other utensils to the designated area after using.
The Noshery
The Noshery is another place in MIS offering a good selection of food and refreshments to students. To create a pleasant and comfortable dining atmosphere, all students/customers are enjoined to follow these guidelines:
- The Noshery opens at 7:30 A.M. and closes at 6:00 P.M from Monday to Friday. It specifically caters to students during the morning/afternoon break and lunch time.
- Food and drinks bought at the Noshery should not be brought to the classroom nor the cafeteria and must be consumed only in the Noshery dining area.
- For a healthier and more economical or frugal choice, students are encouraged to eat in the cafeteria or consider it first before heading to the Noshery.
- Table etiquette/manners must be observed at all times. Students must sit properly during meals.
- In line with the guidelines above, everyone is reminded to be polite and to behave appropriately at all times in the dining area. Students must wait in line when buying food and must refrain from pushing or jostling one another while queueing up. Cutting in the line, interrupting the food server, and laughing or talking boisterously while eating are considered impolite and rude behavior.
- The food item chosen must be paid properly. Customers are likewise reminded to count their change (if there is any) before leaving the counter. Underpayment and shortchanging are strictly not allowed.
- Trash, especially plastic food containers and disposable eating utensils, must be thrown properly into the garbage bin. Leaving or dropping litter anywhere in the Noshery is highly discouraged.
- As courtesy to the next customer, students must leave tables cleaned and chairs pushed back after using them.
- Do not leave your things/valuables unattended. The Noshery staff is not be held responsible for lost things. Always check your place before leaving.
- Speak English at all times.
Function Hall
Birthday celebration at the function hall is for free. Parents/guardians should fill out a request form at least three days before the date. The school provides the birthday banner and cake as compliments. Family and invitees are allowed to enter the function hall for the celebration. The school can provide catering services and/or goodie bags for a fee upon request.
Campsite
Camping is a scouting activity enjoyed by grades 4 to 12 students. The campsite for the elementary section is located on the north side of the campus beside the carpool, however, the MC decides for the final location. For the middle and high school, camp location is decided and announced by the Management Committee.
Career Development and International Relations
The Career Development Officer and/or the Guidance Counselor helps students cultivate a high degree of understanding of their interests, encourages them in career planning and awareness, and in decision making through counseling, psychological testing, and personality inventory. Services may be done individually or as a group, and may involve their significant others.
Clinic
The School Clinic provides First Aid Services and emergency care for sick or injured students. Beds available for ill or injured students are for their use only. The school clinic also provides education on health related issues.
The School Nurse reserves the right to turn away students who misuse or excessively use the clinic.
The School Clinic is open from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. from Monday to Thursday and until 4:00 P.M. on Fridays. Check-ups, medications, and services given by the school clinic are free of charge.
Clinic Rules
Respect of clinic rules is expected and appreciated:
- All students must have a “Sick Slip” before coming to the clinic, to be filled out by the student and signed by the subject teacher.
- After treatment, the school nurse provides the student a “Clinic Visit Slip” indicating the time of admission, treatment given, and time of discharge.
- The student must show the “Clinic Visit Slip” to the subject teacher upon return to class.
- No student is permitted to remain in the clinic throughout the school day unless necessary.
- The clinic is not to be used for socializing.
- Students who don’t follow the rules is asked to leave at once and sent to their class adviser.
- Parents should inform the school nurse if a student needs monitoring or help in taking the prescribed medication during school hours.
- If the student needs to be sent home, the school nurse notifies the class adviser who thereby informs the parents about his condition.
- If repeated visits to the school clinic indicates an attendance problem, the class adviser or the principal is notified.
Gallery
The Gallery is used for outdoor and extracurricular activities. Hours of use are from 08:00-18:00.
Copy Center
School provides a copy center which can be used by anybody who needs photocopies, especially lessons given by the teacher. The copy center is open during school hours, 07:40-16:40.
Laboratories
MIS laboratories include the Computer Lab, Science Lab, and Language Lab. They are open to teachers conducting practical activities in support of the learning process. Students, who use these labs, is under the supervision of the teacher and should abide by the rules and regulations of the laboratories.
COMPUTER LAB
Hours of Use
The MIS Computer Lab will be opened and may be used during the following hours (as long as there is no class or teacher using it for class during that time):

The Computer Lab is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and all public holidays. It is closed for specific purposes such as maintenance work and special reserved courses and classes. Advanced notice is given for such events. Students are advised to look for related notifications on the notice board outside the Computer Lab.
Authorized Users
- Only MIS faculty, staff, and students are allowed to use the Computer Lab.
- Scheduled time during which the lab can be used:
- During Computer classes
- During break time (1st break, Lunch break, and 2nd break)
- During the assignment period with permission from the assigned teacher.
- Each faculty, staff member, and student is given a username to access the computer and another username to access the internet. Contact the Computer Lab supervisor if you don’t have one.
Cleanliness and Tidiness
- No food or drinks are allowed in the computer lab at any time.
- The IT Department is not responsible for any loss of personal belongings left in the Computer Lab.
- The user’s school accessories such as paper, pens and pencils etc. are to be removed from the workstation before leaving the room. The IT Department is not responsible for such items found in the Computer Lab.
- Floppy disks and other removable storage media (e.g. CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, USB flash disks, Memory cards, etc.) must not be left behind in the drive after shutting down the computer. Such media are confiscated.
- Be responsible when using equipment, software and facilities in the lab.
- Do not move or unplug any equipment from its original position or connection.
Usage of the Computer Lab
- Do not save your work on the computer hard disk. Use your own storage (diskette, USB flash disk, Memory cards) to do this. For class works, students are given a specific storage space on the server with limited space. Use them wisely.
- The Computer Lab is for serious work only. No computer games are allowed at any time. No user is allowed to use the computer facilities for chatting on the Internet. Any user found to be using the Computer Lab for games or Internet chat is banned from further usage of the Lab.
- The MIS Computer Lab is strictly for work on the computer. It is not a place for discussion and personal conversation. Please observe silence in the Computer Lab.
- All students must follow the proper procedure when shutting down the computer. Do not use the CPU and the monitor switches to switch off the system. (Do check with the user next to your workstation before you switch off the main power).
- Students are prohibited from changing existing computer system settings e.g. BIOS, the mouse settings, screen savers, background, etc, unless the course taken requires them. Students who persist in doing this is banned from using the computer facilities in the lab.
- Internet facility is strictly for educational purposes only. Students are prohibited from surfing pornographic and other undesirable websites on the Internet. Any user found to be doing so or downloading pornographic material is banned from the Computer Lab and will be reported to the Student Affairs for proper disciplinary measure.
- Students must inform the IT Department staff or teacher for any computer breakdown.
- Do not attempt to repair or tamper with computer lab equipment.
Wi-Fi Usage
Hotspot connection is also available to students using their own laptop after they register to the network administrator. All users of the IT facilities are required to follow the rules and regulations of the IT department.
- The user of MIS Internet hotspot should be registered students, teachers, staff members or officials of Manado Independent School.
- Every user is issued a single code to gain access to this service.
- There are different levels of priority for internet service access.
- In order to prevent misapplications of internet service, it is forbidden for a user to access the internet hotspot with other’s user code.
- Students can only use the internet service for educational purposes.
- Teachers or staff members can use the internet service as long as it supports their institutional charge and work.
- Users are not allowed internet access whose nature is found contrary to the rules and regulations of this country, the Indonesia.
- The Network Administrator has full authority monitoring those who are using the Internet Service.
- The Network Administrator has full authority to take action whenever the users breach established rules and regulations of network use.
- The Network Administrator is charged with reporting all violations of network use to management and / or administrators.
Science Laboratory
Safety Rules of the Science Laboratory
- Never work alone in the laboratory. No student can work in the science classroom without the presence of the teacher.
- Upon entering a science classroom or lab, do not touch any equipment, chemicals, or other materials in the laboratory area until you are instructed to do so.
- Perform only those experiments authorized by your teacher. Carefully follow all instructions, both written and oral. Unauthorized experiments are not allowed.
- Do not eat food, drink beverages, or chew gum in the laboratory. Do not use laboratory glassware as containers for food or beverages.
- Prepare ahead of time for your work in the laboratory. Read all procedures thoroughly before entering the room.
- Be alert and proceed with caution at all times in the laboratory. Immediately notify the teacher of any unsafe conditions you observe.
- Dispose off all chemical waste properly. Never mix chemicals in sink drains. Sinks are to be used only for water. Check with your teacher for disposal of chemicals and solutions.
- Labels and equipment instructions must be read carefully before use. Set up and use of the equipment as directed by your teacher.
- Keep hands away from face, eyes, mouth, and body while using chemicals or lab equipment. Wash your hands with soap and water after performing any experiment.
- Know the locations and operating procedures for all safety equipment including: first aid kit, and fire extinguisher. Know where the fire alarm and the exits are located.
- Any time chemicals, heat, or glassware are used, students must wear safety goggles. NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE!
- Dress properly during a laboratory activity. Long hair, dangling jewelry, and loose or baggy clothing are a hazard in the laboratory. Long hair must be tied back, and dangling jewelry and baggy clothing must be secured.
- Wear shoes that cover the entire foot. No sandals allowed on lab days.
- A lab coat or smock should be worn during laboratory experiments.
- Report any accident (spill, breakage, etc.) or injury (cut, burn, etc.) to the teacher immediately, no matter how trivial it seems. Do not panic.
- If you or your lab partner is hurt, immediately (and loudly) yell out the teacher’s name to get the teacher’s attention. Do not panic.
- If a chemical should splash in your eye(s) or on your skin, immediately flush with running water for at least 20 minutes. Immediately (and loudly) yell out the teacher’s name to get the teacher’s attention.
- All chemicals in the laboratory are to be considered dangerous. Avoid handling chemicals with fingers. Always use tweezers. When making an observation, keep at least one foot away from the specimen. Do not taste, or smell any chemicals.
- Check the label on all chemical bottles twice before removing any of the contents. Take only as much chemical as you need.
- Never return unused chemicals to their original container.
- Never remove chemicals or other materials from the laboratory area.
- Examine glassware before each use. Never use chipped, cracked, or dirty glassware.
- If you do not understand how to use a piece of equipment, ASK THE TEACHER FOR HELP!
- Do not immerse hot glassware in cold water. The glassware may shatter.
- Heated glassware remains very hot for a long time. They should be set aside in a designated place to cool, and picked up with caution. Use tongs or heat protective gloves if necessary.
- Never look into a container that is being heated.
- Work areas should be kept clean and tidy at all times.
Library
The library is open from Monday to Thursday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., and on Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. except on public holidays. It houses a diverse collection- from text books, work books, and reference books to fiction, dictionaries, encyclopedia, magazines, clippings, audio cassette, and CD’s. Students who would like to borrow books must secure a library card from the library staff and should abide by the school’s library regulations.

Safety Rules of the Library
- Fill out the visitor’s book (computerized system is under development).
- Deposit bags and other belongings in the lockers.
- No eating/ drinking in the room.
- Keep the room clean, beautiful and quiet.
- After reading, leave the books on the table. (do not return them to the shelves)
Policies on Borrowing and Returning Books
- Every borrower is provided a Library Membership Card (student, teacher and staff). The membership card is provided free for the members. If a member loses his/her card, he/she has to pay Rp. 5.000 for the procurement of a new one. A new membership card is issued at the beginning of each academic year.
- Student books can be borrowed for as long as one school year and are due by the end of the School Year.
- Supplementary books can be borrowed.
- Borrowed books can be extended for another three days but should be brought to the Library first .
- Unless other copies exist in the library, a patron cannot extend a book’s due date if that book has been put on reserve by another student.
- Library patrons can put a hold on a book currently lent out to another person but must wait for the book to be returned before borrowing. The library staff is happy to take requests for the purchase of new books that the library currently does not hold.
- All books borrowed and returned must go through the circulation desk only. Patrons are held responsible for proper return.
- Patrons have open access to the stacks whereby they can browse and directly choose books so desired.
- Fill out a due slip and show a membership card to check out a book.
Collection and Reference
- Reference books and reserved books are not allowed to be taken out of the library, except when a teacher really needs them;
- A teacher can keep such a book overnight
- Teacher’s edition can be borrowed by permission of the library staff.
Rules, Regulations, and Sanctions:
- Late charges are Rp. 1000 per book per day. If a borrower has a problem returning a book, he can ask somebody else to return it to the circulation desk.
- Lost or irreparably damaged books must be replaced or paid for by the responsible patron. A student borrower who defaces a book intentionally without the knowledge of the teacher will be fined appropriate to the extent of damage.
- Patrons who do not obey regulations– especially point II.4 will be asked to vacate the Library room.
Media Centre

The music rooms are open only for teachers who are in- charge of teaching a music class, or any kind of program that involves musical rehearsal. Teachers and students must abide by the following guidelines of the music hall:
- Students are not allowed to enter the music rooms without a teacher.
- Playing and/or rearranging of musical instruments are only allowed upon the instruction of the teacher-in-charge.
- The user of the assigned instrument will be liable to any damage or loss.
- Do not bring any musical instrument outside the room.
- No food, drinks, cellphones, or anything not related to Music will be brought inside the room.
- Students are expected to arrive on time and stay inside the room throughout the entire class period.
- Wear your ID and speak English at all times.
- No bullying. Respect teachers, visitors, and fellow students.
- Do not write anywhere other than your own paper.
- Switch off all lights and other equipments before leaving or when not in use.
Playground
The main issue in designing playgrounds is to provide challenging and fun activities while safeguarding children’s safety. The desire to play comes naturally to all children and its value is undeniable. The process of play increases a child’s self-esteem, opens a young mind to new possibilities, and develops social, verbal, and problem-solving skills.
It is important to remember that the process and quality of play cannot be bought. It is provided by the child’s imagination and innate desire to play. A playground should challenge students to exercise, develop their bodies and promote group activities all in a safe and fun manner.
Rules, Regulations, and Sanctions:
- With adult supervision, the playground is officially opened from 11:30 A.M.-12:00 P.M. every school day. It is also opened before and after school (7:00–7:45 a.m. and after school hours until 6 p.m.) Students are not allowed to use the playground after the stated hours above without adult supervision. There should be adult supervision at all times for all K1 & K2 students.
- No playing with wood chips/sharp objects. (For protection in case of a fall).
- No jumping from the top of structures.
- No climbing up the slide.
- No inappropriate behavior in the courtyard.
- Violent running games are not allowed.
- Do not pass too closely by the swing area.
- No playing on wet equipment.
- Follow the queue system.
- Students must have extra t-shirts, towels, and girls must use shorts with skirt uniform.
- Students who want to stay after school hour must ask permission from the vice-principal for student affairs and be responsible for their own transportation.
- Students use the flying fox/hanging slide should be at least 3 feet in height/ grade 4 above.
- Wear t-shirts while playing.
- Playground use is exclusively for MIS students. Outsiders must ask permission from the vice-principal for student affairs.
- Observe cleanliness. Eating on the playground is not allowed.
- No vandalism and spitting.
- Students who willfully damage the playground will be held financially responsible.
- Students who violate the rules will be called to the office for disciplinary action.
Residence Hall
The MIS Residence Hall is intended for Grade 7 to 12 students. It is provided for students who want to live close to the school.
The ABC’s of Dormitory Rules and Regulation
- Attend worship and other religious services regularly.
- Be responsible by keeping one’s private room clean at all times.
- Courtesy to everyone should be observed.
- Refrain from socializing during study periods.
- Economize energy consumption.
- File your gate pass a day before any intended leave from MIS.
- Grant entrance to visitors at the lobby only.
- Honor the rights of others (Life, Property and Privacy).
- Inform the home cleaning staff immediately in case of emergency.
- Keep the washroom/restroom clean at all times.
- Lock your lockers at all times.
- Mark your personal belongings.
- Never go to bed without Bible reading and prayer.
- Observe study period, and curfew hours.
- Pay attention to all announcements.
- Observe silence during siesta time.
- Report all losses and irregularities to the cleaning staff immediately.
- Seek counsel from the dormitory authorities when you need help.
- Treat everyone equally and fairly.
- Utilize all dormitory facilities properly.
- Vandalizing of school property is strictly prohibited.
- Wear appropriate attire for all occasions.
- Strive to excel in all endeavors.
- Yield not to immoral practices.
- Zero in your student life which is designed for heaven.

Security
The school employs several personal security guards who work by shift. Three guards are responsible at every shift.
Security guards have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Stand by during duty hour.
- Monitor and make absence reports of students and staff.
- Check for the proper functioning of facilities and equipment. Check all the doors and windows to
make sure everything is locked; turn off the AC, lights and computer; and check the water status. - Prohibit anybody from roaming around the campus area.
- Prohibit guests from entering the school premises without permission.
- Keeps appropriate doors closed.
Shower Room
The shower room is available at the Sports Hall. Hours are 07.00 A.M. – 18.00 P.M. The shower room can be used by students or staff after sports hour. Make sure to turn off the water faucet after showering.
Student Lockers
- Lockers are provided for students.
- Use the locker for safe storage of belongings such as a book, bag, hand phone, laptop, etc.
- Locker keys should be kept by the locker owner.
- Lockers are placed inside the class for ECP and both inside and outside in the hallway for Elementary section. Middle and High School sections have lockers available in the hallways just outside the classrooms.
- Any damaged lockers and lost keys will be charged to the student.
Sports Hall
Facilities include a basketball court, badminton courts, soccer/futsal, and a swimming pool.
The Sports Hall is opened during office/school hours from 08.00 A.M. – 6.00 P.M. Users are required to follow the Sports Hall rules and regulations.
Sportsplex
Guidelines
- Smoking, using drugs, and drinking alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited inside the sports arena.
- Food (especially chewing gum) and beverages / refreshments are not allowed inside the Sportsplex.
- Sportsmanship inside and outside the court is expected at all times. Profanity, obscenity, and any form of inappropriate behaviors are not acceptable.
- Keep the facility clean and damage-free.
- Spectators are requested to sit on the bleachers properly.
- Wear appropriate attire before entering the Sportsplex and strictly observe the rubber shoes only policy. High heels are never allowed inside as they can destroy the rubber carpet.
- Bags or backpacks are only allowed inside after thorough security check. Objects that disturb or aim to insult, hurt or in any way interfere the comfort of other spectators will be confiscated.
- Take care of your belongings at all times. MIS Sportsplex management will not be held responsible for lost or stolen property.
- Always wear your ID for proper identification.
- Secure a pass before going out of the Sportsplex, as it is required for re-entry.
Swimming Pool
Swimming Pool Rules:
- No Smoking
- Shower before and after swimming
- Use swimsuits
- No spitting
- No peeing
- No littering around the pool
- No shoes allowed in the pool area
- Return all equipment after swimming
- Obey all instructions/ orders by subject teacher/staff
- No running in the pool area
- No pushing or ‘rough play’ allowed in the pool area

After School Care Center (ASCC)
MIS offers a free of charge after school care for ECP—grade 3 students who need to stay at school after dismissal due to the following reasons:
- Waiting to be picked up by their parents/legal guardians.
- Waiting for tutorial classes.
- Waiting for their older sibling to go home together.
- In the case of staff children, waiting for their parents who are still at work.
While at the ASCC, students will be looked after by care assistants who will entertain them with educational movies and activities. Students can even do their assignments in a separate room. The school cafeteria will also serve them with snacks.
ASCC is open from dismissal time (Monday—Wednesday, 2:30 P.M.; Thursday & Friday 1:45 P.M.) until 6:00 P.M. In order for the student to be picked up, parent/guardian will need to contact the security guard at the lobby of the main entrance. The security guard will then pass on the information to the care assistants. These assistants will guide the child to the lobby to meet their parents/guardians.
Transportation
Rules and Policies:
- The school provides busses and cars to pick up and drop off students, teachers and staff.
- Students will be picked up at the assigned pick up point.
- Students have to be at the pickup point on time to avoid delays.
- Bus will leave the pickup point based on the scheduled time.
- Those who are left behind still have a chance to get a ride on other MIS buses at the pickup point if there are available seats. If not, they need to find transportation on their own in order to get to school.
- Everybody is expected to behave properly in the bus.
- Make an orderly queue while getting in and out of the bus.
- Do not stand while the bus is in motion.
- Do not stand close to the door.
- Do not play with the door.
- Follow the given seating arrangement.
- Students are not allowed to play or run around.
- Keep the bus clean.
- Use the provided trash can for garbage disposal.
- Do not damage the bus interior.
- Do not throw out anything outside from a bus window or doorway.
- Loud music as generated by electronic music players is prohibited.
- Teachers and staff are not allowed as bus passengers unless there is enough space.
- Those who have the privilege or an approval from the school may take a ride in the bus.
- Those who are late and hence left behind due to their careless/ intentional actions should be responsible for their own transportation to school.
