The Pre-Popnas event, held from November 2-8, 2024, in Gorontalo Province, showcased the remarkable spirit and performance of MIS student-athletes alongside other participants. The collective effort resulted in an impressive tally of 18 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
The Manado Independent School (MIS) Science Club successfully hosted a DNA Extraction Seminar at the MIS Auditorium on November 28, 2024. This event showcased the club’s dedication to advancing science education, bringing together high school students and teachers for an engaging and informative session. The seminar featured Mr. Beivy Kolondam, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer from Sam Ratulangi University, as the keynote speaker.
The 2024 American Math Olympiad (AMO), a prestigious international event, was once again graced by the presence of talented students from Manado Independent School (MIS). Ranging from elementary to high school levels, these students embarked on a journey that demanded dedication, discipline, and perseverance from all involved—students, teachers, and parents alike. Since the start of the school year, MIS students have undergone rigorous training to master not only fundamental mathematical skills but also advanced problem-solving strategies, logic, and analytical thinking. Manado Independent School (MIS) had the honor of receiving a visit from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology on November 12, 2024, particularly from the Directorate General of Culture. This visit was part of the activities in support of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) session in Paraguay. The focus was on providing assistance and documentation of traditional cultural practices, including kolintang music, a cultural heritage of North Sulawesi, which is actively promoted at MIS. The event was coordinated by the Director of Development and Utilization of Culture, Mrs. Irini Dewi Wanti, who delegated Mr. Wahyu Jatmiko, a First Cultural Expert, and Mr. Wiyadi, a staff director, to attend.
Two talented young athletes from Manado Independent School (MIS), Richelle Lisungan and Eunice Politon, both 11th-grade students, achieved a remarkable feat by securing 3rd place in the U16 singles category at the 2024 Minahasa Open Tennis Tournament. The event, held from November 15-17 in Tondano, drew participation from professional tennis players across North Sulawesi. Richelle and Eunice had to navigate several competitive rounds, facing tough opponents with diverse strategies. Despite tennis being a challenging sport and not widely popular in Indonesian school circles, both students showcased their hard-earned skills and techniques from extensive training sessions.
Manado Independent School (MIS) proudly celebrates the extraordinary achievements of three of its students—Merrilyn Vallerie Tandouw (8th grade), Morelia Theresa Polii (7th grade), and Joshua Ryan Jedidiah Ganda (4th grade)—in the Spelling Bee competition organized by English First Kids & Teens, Manado Region, held from November 8-10, 2024. The students' impressive English language skills showcased MIS’s excellence in this prestigious event.
Manado Independent School (MIS) recently held its 21st Music Concert and 9th Art Exhibition on November 25-26, 2024, in the school's auditorium. The event, which drew admiration from attendees, showcased the talents of MIS students and brought the community together in a spirit of charity.
The atmosphere at Manado Independent School (MIS) was filled with excitement, camaraderie, and valuable insights during the MIS Pet Day event organized by the Science Club on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the MIS Gallery. The event allowed students to bring their beloved pets to school, creating a lively and interactive environment with a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, turtles, chameleons, sugar gliders, fish, geckos, and even ducks. This fun-filled day also had a deeper purpose: to inspire students to care for animals and recognize their importance in the ecosystem, emphasizing the responsibility humans have in ensuring their survival.
On November 7, 2024, the men's and women's basketball teams from Manado Independent School (MIS) High School made an impressive showing by advancing to the final round of the prestigious Developmental Basketball League (DBL) in North Sulawesi. Both teams exhibited exceptional skill and determination, with each player fully committed to their shared vision. MIS also demonstrated incredible school spirit, with enthusiastic support from students, earning them the “Most Favorite School” award and the runner-up position for “Most Favorite Supporter.”
On October 31, 2024, Manado Independent School (MIS) student Tristan Benedict Kandou secured 1st Place in the Physics Olympiad organized by Manado State University (UNIMA) as part of their annual event, TEMU Fisika. Known for his intelligence and passion for science, particularly in physics, Tristan represented MIS in this prestigious competition.
