Manado Independent School High School level comprises Grade 10,11, and 12. There are five types of subject programs taught in the High School. Major subjects fall into one of the two program types- science or social. The next four, cover the Elective subjects including minor, extracurricular, music and arts, and sports.
English is the medium of instruction in all course subjects except for Bahasa Indonesia, Civics, Mandarin, and German classes. The curriculum used is Cambridge, A Beka, and National.
Curriculum
Students in Hight School level will study A level or Advanced level, the highest standard of Cambridge qualification. In the Advanced Level, students have access to more specialized courses of study such as those found in the science or social program streams. This caters each individual student’s current interests, ambitions for higher learning and potential career paths. Students develop a deep understanding of subjects, independent learning and constructive thinking skills – abilities that universities value. At the end of Grade 12, students will take any combination of subjects and each subject is certificated separately by CIE.
Transferees from other schools to MIS in grade 10, who intend to take the IGCSE examination, will be required to join the enhancement program in order to catch up with the first year of IGCSE Level II as taken in grade 9. The enhancement will be offered after school hours during the first semester of grade 10.
Examinations and Certificates
In order to receive the completion certificate from Cambridge Assessment International Education at the end of grades 10 and 12, students need to take the Cambridge International Examination (CIE) which will be held sometime in October and November. Grade 12 students who have chosen to take the national examination will receive a governmental certificate. The school will award MIS certificate for all grade 12 students.
Benefits of IGCSE and A-Level
Cambridge—IGCSE and A—Level curricula are globally recognized and used in over a hundred countries. The Cambridge curriculum develops vital educational skills, including oral, investigative, problem solving, team work, knowledge recall, and taking initiatives. Some A-Level subjects may be awarded credit by many international college Bachelor’s Degree programs.
