MIS Internship Program Paves a Promising Path

Hillary Gultom, a Grade 12 student at Manado Independent School (MIS), is making her mark through an internship at ODSK Manado Hospital — a proud milestone both for her and the school. Running from May to October 2025, the internship represents a meaningful first step toward Hillary’s long-held aspiration of building a career in health and medicine.

As an intern, Hillary approaches her responsibilities with enthusiasm and a strong sense of purpose. “As a recent high school graduate with no prior clinical experience, my role focuses on observational learning and supportive tasks,” she shared. “Under supervision, I observe patient care protocols, study safety measures, and assist with basic clinical duties.” For Hillary, this opportunity is part of a carefully considered long-term plan.

Her daily involvement in hospital activities has brought her closer to the ideals she has held since discovering her passion for healthcare. “I aim to become a healthcare professional,” Hillary explained. “I’ve always been fascinated by the opportunity to help others. This field combines my passion for science with my desire to make a meaningful impact. Through this internship, I hope to gain real-world experience that will help me adapt more quickly during medical school rotations.”

Hillary also credits MIS and her family for guiding her journey and strengthening her determination. “MIS has nurtured my interest in medicine and helped build my confidence in learning new skills. In Grade 10, I joined the Public Health extracurricular program, and my involvement in the Science Club expanded my perspective even further,” she said. “With the support of these programs and my teachers, I’ve realized I’m capable of more than I ever imagined. I’m excited to take the next step toward my goals.” Hillary’s drive and commitment are an inspiration to her peers at MIS — a testament to the power of early exploration, thoughtful planning, and community support in preparing for a meaningful future.
