MIS Students Excel in Mathematics

Manado Independent School (MIS) has once again showcased its academic excellence. On April 24, 2025, students from MIS’s high school and junior high school divisions achieved remarkable success in the Mathematics Competition themed “CALCULUS”, held at Manado State University (UNIMA).

In the Quiz category, the MIS high school team earned an impressive 2nd place. In contrast, the junior high school team proudly secured 3rd place, demonstrating that the passion for learning and love of mathematics thrive at every level of education at MIS.

The high school team, comprised of Michael Liwe and Tristan Kandou (both Grade 12) and Reinhard Liester (Grade 11), exhibited a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and skillfully applied theory to tackle challenging problems. Their well-coordinated strategy and clear role division enabled them to answer with precision under pressure, forming a strong and cohesive team that ultimately secured 2nd place.

Michael Liwe, a Grade 12 student, reflected on the experience in what may be his final competition at MIS:
“I felt kind of nervous knowing this was my last competition. But Tristan, Reinhard, and I were able to communicate well, and each of us had a part to play. In the final round, we were behind on points, but by the grace of God and thanks to my teammates, we made a comeback and claimed second place. Overall, it was a great experience.”

At the junior high school level, the team of Jery Lumoring, Kelvin Tangkunei, and Julian Hamdany (all from Grade 9) also displayed admirable determination and confidence. Despite their younger age, they competed fearlessly, and their dedication to studying and practice was rewarded with a well-earned 3rd place. These achievements are a testament to the students’ hard work, the guidance of dedicated teachers, and the unwavering support of the school. MIS continues to foster a culture where perseverance, academic excellence, and a healthy spirit of competition come together to make every challenge a valuable learning opportunity.
