Manado Independent School (MIS) has again shone on the international stage. Lionel Pasaribu, an 8th-grade student at MIS Middle School, proudly brought home a silver medal from the 2025 Global English Language Olympiad of Southeast Asia, held in Incheon, South Korea, from April 2–5, 2025.
Competing in the international round, Lionel faced some of the most talented participants from across Southeast Asia. The competition was intense, with contestants showcasing exceptional English proficiency. Rising to the challenge, Lionel competed with full confidence, demonstrating his mastery of the English language and his sharp critical thinking skills.
At such a young age, Lionel bravely stepped out of his comfort zone, dedicating time and effort to refine his English abilities. His perseverance, combined with the supportive English-speaking environment at MIS, led him to claim the silver medal in this prestigious event. Lionel’s success represents the dream of many Indonesian students, especially within the MIS community. His family, who accompanied him throughout the journey, shared immense pride and joy, as did the entire MIS family.
“I am so grateful to God for allowing me to participate in the International Round of the Global English Language Olympiad of Southeast Asia (GELOSEA) 2025 in Incheon, South Korea, and to win the Silver Award. I’m thrilled to have gained new experiences and feel even more motivated to keep learning and improving my English skills. I also want to thank my parents, family, and teachers at MIS who have always supported me,” Lionel expressed with heartfelt gratitude and pride.
As a student who consistently strives to grow and push his limits, Lionel’s achievements have taken him to the international stage, paving the way toward realizing his future dreams. His accomplishment is hoped to inspire and motivate other MIS students to continue developing their potential and to dare to dream big.
