Music has always united believers and lifted hearts in praise to God. This year, Manado Independent School (MIS) celebrated an extraordinary musical achievement as a group of grade 12 students composed an original Christian hymn, “Redeemed by Love.” The students behind this inspiring song are Jeewel Felycia Budiman, Sunny Miracle Tambelangi, Melinda Shercynnie Felicia Karu, and Veirli Virginia Evelyn Liempepas. The song made its debut on March 10, 2025, during the first day of Prayer Week.
Under the guidance of Mr. Daniel Wilson Saputra, S.M., the school’s music teacher, “Redeemed by Love” was crafted to enhance the spiritual atmosphere of Prayer Week and to serve as a lasting hymn for worship sessions. Mr. Daniel, who arranged the song, shared his hope for its impact: “The arrangement of this song is intended not just to be a theme for the week but a song that people can listen to every day.” His longstanding desire to create a worship song that is both meaningful and easy to follow became a reality through this project.
The song’s arrangement is simple yet captivating, with band accompaniment reflecting heartfelt worship. The pop genre was chosen to ensure the song’s broad appeal, making it accessible to all age groups. The students, with Mr. Daniel’s guidance, worked diligently to compose a melody and lyrics that would be easy for listeners at MIS and beyond to sing, hoping the song would endure like God’s love.
Jeewel, one of the songwriters, described how the process brought them together. “Our motivation for writing this song came from our daily life experiences. As we transition into adulthood, we face choices, and at times, we feel lost. This song comes from our hearts, with the belief that no matter what challenges we face, God will always provide, and miracles will happen because of His love. We hope this song becomes a blessing for those in the same position and for those who are lost to be found.” As the Week of Prayer concluded, the song’s melody lingered in the hearts of students, teachers, and staff, a testament to its powerful message. “Redeemed by Love” has beautifully captured the themes of salvation and Christ’s unfailing love, solidifying itself as a cherished piece of worship music that will continue to inspire.
