The long-awaited day finally arrived as Manado Independent School (MIS) hosted the MIS SA Cup 2025, gathering students from various schools across North Sulawesi. The event, running from February 17 to 24, is the school’s biggest annual competition, featuring a variety of sports and arts events. The opening ceremony, held with great enthusiasm, began with a worship session led by Pr. Nathaniel Kiruja, MA, Vice Principal of Student Affairs at MIS High School. This was followed by an inspiring speech from Dr. Joppi Rondonuwu, encouraging participants to embrace the cup as “…a great opportunity to develop our skills and learn from each other.”
The soccer field was filled with over 1,500 students, teachers, and parents who gathered to witness the creativity and talents of their children, showcased through performances in singing, band, and dance.
The presence of Mr. Jemmy Ringkuangan, A.P., M.Si., Head of the North Sulawesi Youth and Sports Service, brought unmatched energy to the ceremony. In his speech, he highlighted the significance of the MIS SA Cup 2025, which has drawn students from across the province. He expressed gratitude to MIS and the organizing team, stating that the event provides a platform for young athletes to showcase their abilities. He advised the participants, “…bertandinglah dengan sportifitas dan hormati setiap lawan. Jadikan kompetisi ini sebagai pengalaman berharga untuk mengembangkan potensi dan meraih prestasi yang lebih tinggi demi masa depan yang lebih baik,”
One of the most memorable moments was the lighting of the torch by Mr. Ringkuangan and Abigail Sumanti, President of the Student Association (SA), symbolizing the official commencement of the MIS SA Cup. The Middle and High School SA officers worked tirelessly to plan and organize every aspect of the tournament, from managing registrations to preparing the schedule and ensuring all equipment and facilities were safe and ready.
The atmosphere became even more vibrant as participants and supporters from other schools arrived, proudly wearing their school colors and ready to cheer for their teams. The tournament will feature a wide range of sports, including basketball, volleyball, futsal, tennis, swimming, and performances in band and dance. The SA of MIS is confident that the 2025 MIS SA Cup will be filled with excitement and surprises, serving as a platform to nurture the talents and abilities of the nation’s young generation.
