Contribution of MIS Students Representing North Sulawesi in PRAPOPNAS

The Pre-Popnas event, held from November 2-8, 2024, in Gorontalo Province, showcased the remarkable spirit and performance of MIS student-athletes alongside other participants. The collective effort resulted in an impressive tally of 18 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze medals.

The volleyball team, coached by Eka Mokoginta, who also serves as MIS’s volleyball coach, demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork. Key players Michiko Poluan and Christmas Kaparang from the women’s team, along with Damian Idrus from the men’s team, proudly secured gold medals. Their success marked a dream come true for the entire team.

This outstanding achievement was officially reported to the Governor, Deputy Governor, and Secretary of North Sulawesi Province by Jemmy Ringkuangan, the Head of North Sulawesi’s Youth and Sports Service. He remarked, “This success is the result of the athletes’ hard work, the dedication of their coaches, and the unwavering support from various parties who helped prepare the North Sulawesi contingent.”

Coach Eka Mokoginta, grateful for the opportunity to lead the North Sulawesi volleyball team at Pre-Popnas 2024, expressed his deep appreciation: “It was by the grace of the Lord Jesus, the source of all blessings, that we achieved this victory. I’m also thankful for the support of the North Sulawesi Dispora, parents, and the MIS administration for allowing the students to focus on training and competition.”

In addition to the volleyball team’s success, the MIS basketball team also delivered exceptional performances. The men’s team, led by standout players Timothy Tulenan, Robben Mangindaan, and Juano Pasuhuk, dominated their competition and clinched the gold medal. Meanwhile, the women’s team, comprising Eugenia Tengko, Moonclaire Wijoyo, and Anastasya Ombu, secured a silver medal and remain committed to improving for the upcoming Popnas competition.

Moonclaire Wijoyo, an 11th-grade student at MIS and a key player on the women’s basketball team, expressed her gratitude for the experience: “I am truly thankful for the opportunity to represent North Sulawesi in the basketball competition at Pre-Popnas 2024. It was a chance to grow my skills, form strong bonds with my teammates, and experience the thrill of competition. Winning the silver medal brings me immense joy.”

The success of the MIS athletes was a testament to their hard work, discipline, and the unwavering support of their coaches, teachers, and parents. Moonclaire added, “I believe this victory is not only the result of our efforts but also a blessing from God. This journey has been an unforgettable experience that I will always treasure.” For the MIS students who contributed to this achievement, Pre-Popnas 2024 was a defining moment. It not only strengthened their competitive mentality but also demonstrated their readiness to represent North Sulawesi on the national stage at Popnas 2025.
