The atmosphere at Manado Independent School (MIS) was filled with excitement, camaraderie, and valuable insights during the MIS Pet Day event organized by the Science Club on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the MIS Gallery. The event allowed students to bring their beloved pets to school, creating a lively and interactive environment with a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, turtles, chameleons, sugar gliders, fish, geckos, and even ducks. This fun-filled day also had a deeper purpose: to inspire students to care for animals and recognize their importance in the ecosystem, emphasizing the responsibility humans have in ensuring their survival.
One of the most exciting moments was the pet parade, where animals strutted down the catwalk like stars. Dressed in adorable costumes, the pets captured everyone’s attention, and their unique personalities brought laughter and applause from the audience. Michael Liwe, a grade 12 student and treasurer of the Science Club, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “Bringing pets to school was an amazing experience. I had a great time, especially with my dog, who’s usually at home all the time. It was a refreshing and fun side of the Science Club, and I’d love to see more of this kind of event.”
It wasn’t just the students who participated—teachers also joined in by bringing their pets, creating an opportunity for both students and teachers to bond, exchange experiences, and share tips on pet care, health, and behavior. The event culminated in an awards ceremony, where medals were given out for various categories, adding a competitive yet playful element to the day.
Reflecting on the event, Elizabeth Kordak, a grade 12 student and secretary of the Science Club, said, “This event opened my eyes to how precious it is to have a pet. They bring comfort and joy in ways humans can’t, and this experience has completely changed my perspective on the science of animals.”
Both students and teachers expressed hopes that MIS Pet Day would become an annual tradition, fostering stronger relationships within the school community while encouraging love and care for animals
