The Manado Independent School (MIS) band showcased their exceptional talent at the SMAKER Championship 4.0, held at Manado Town Square on September 11, 2024, in celebration of SMA Kristen 1 Tomohon’s anniversary. Competing against several bands from other schools, the MIS band proudly secured second place, further cementing their reputation in the local music scene. The event, themed “Enchanted Grace,” brought together schools from across the region to celebrate musical creativity and collaboration.
Participants were judged on musicality, stage presence, and overall creativity, and MIS band’s captivating performance resonated with both the audience and judges, earning them praise for their artistry and energy. Earlene, the band’s vocalist and an MIS student, expressed her excitement following the event: “We’re so grateful, especially to God. It feels great to give back to the school, which has supported us all along.”
In the lead-up to the competition, the band trained tirelessly, rehearsing for hours to perfect their performance. “We usually practice in school during our varsity class, which lasts 1-2 hours, and we also practice 3-4 times a week,” Earlene explained.
The SMAKER Championship 4.0 not only highlights musical talent but also fosters camaraderie among participating schools. The event was filled with music and a shared passion for the arts, making it a highlight on the local school calendar.
Coach Daniel Saputra shared his joy in the band’s achievement: “I hope that by actively participating in competitions, MIS music—especially the band section—can continue to grow, improving students’ skills and bringing glory to God and the school.”
Looking ahead, the MIS band is motivated to continue honing their skills and competing in future events. This success serves as an inspiration to other students, emphasizing the importance of nurturing talents at school. Earlene also offered advice for fellow musicians: “Confidence is key to a good performance. Don’t underestimate yourself—believe that you can always do better.”
This achievement is a source of pride for MIS and reflects the dedication and talent of its students. With their ongoing commitment to music, the MIS band is poised to make an even greater impact in future competitions and community events.
