Manado Independent School (MIS) has once again demonstrated its excellence with a stellar performance at the 2024 National Science Olympiad (OSN). Sixth-grade student Maria Michellin Silvia Moniaga secured a bronze medal in the Science category for elementary students. This impressive achievement further enhances MIS’s strong reputation and solidifies its standing as one of the top international schools in North Sulawesi, renowned for academic rigor and its ability to nurture talent that excels on both national and international stages.
The National Science Olympiad (OSN) is a prestigious science competition organized by the Indonesian Talent Development Center under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. It targets elementary, middle, and high school students, providing a platform to showcase and measure scientific abilities across Indonesia. This year, the OSN was held in Jakarta from August 5 to 11, 2024, drawing hundreds of top students from various regions of the country.
Michellin Moniaga expressed her gratitude and pride in earning the bronze medal, recognizing the achievement as a momentous point for both herself and her school. “I joined OSN to gain new experiences and to challenge myself,” she shared. “After watching videos of students who competed in OSN and received college scholarships, I was inspired to follow in their footsteps.” She also spoke of the challenges she faced during her preparation, describing how she balanced schoolwork with OSN training.
“I worked closely with my tutors, Sir Ronny Kaurow and Sir Billy Rawis, both teachers at MIS. It was challenging to balance my schoolwork with OSN preparation, but I managed by finishing my school tasks at school and dedicating my time at home to studying for the competition. With a lot of help from my tutors, I was able to succeed. If you’re thinking about joining OSN, my advice is to study hard and don’t give up. Enjoy the process, and try not to get too stressed.”
Michellin extended her heartfelt thanks to her parents, her school, and her tutors. “I am really grateful to Sir Ronny and Sir Billy for their tutoring and coaching, which helped me achieve this result. Thank you to my parents for believing in me, and to the entire MIS family for their support throughout my OSN journey.”
The Head of the North Minahasa Education Department, Drs. Aldrin I. E. Posumah, M.Si, also congratulated Michellin and acknowledged her achievement. “As the Head of North Minahasa Education, I express my deepest appreciation for the accomplishments of our students in science, as seen in the success of Maria Michellin Silvia Moniaga from MIS. Congratulations on winning the bronze medal in the Science category at the 2024 National Science Olympiad. MIS continues to be an exemplary institution in our region, contributing to the quality of education in North Minahasa. Over the past three years, MIS students have consistently excelled in national competitions, such as OSN and the National Student Art and Science Festival (FLS2N), earning both silver and bronze medals. My hope is that MIS will continue to contribute towards building a better education system, leading us towards the golden generation of 2045.”
