The Manado Independent School (MIS) kicked off its orientation program on Thursday, July 20, 2023. Students were greeted warmly by school administrators and given a series of engaging activities, including seminars and games.
Among the highlights of the program were seminars by Dr. Joppi J. Rondonuwu, Ph.D., chairman of the school board. He gave tips on academic success, and Mr. Petrus Kondo, MAEd, lecturer at Klabat University discussed social media etiquette. Their presentations were well-received by students.
Another highlight was a talk by Wulan Mantiri, an MIS alumna who is now working in Singapore. Wulan shared her experiences as a student at MIS and offered advice to current students.
In addition to the seminars, students were also introduced to MIS culture. They learned about the school’s student pledge, march, rules and regulations, and academic policies and programs.
Kezia Laluyan, a grade 10 student, said she had a great first day of orientation. “I got to spend time with my friends again and I even got to meet new faces,” she said. “The teachers seem nice and I would love to spend another day in MIS as a high school student.”
Kezia also gave a remark that she learned a lot from the seminars. “I learned some tips for academic success and I learned more about the school,” she exclaimed. “I’m really excited to start my high school education at MIS.”
The orientation program concluded on Thursday with a series of fun games. These games were designed to help students get to know each other and build friendships.
The new and returning students began their teaching and learning activities on Monday, July 24, 2023.
