The students and even the alumni of Manado Independent School (MIS) continue to make commendable achievements in academic and non-academic competitions at the Regency, Provincial, National, and International levels. MIS which is the only international school in North Sulawesi that adapts national and international curricula such as Cambridge, Oxford, Abeka and has collaborated with Microsoft and Google for Education is able to succeed and excel in producing outstanding students.
In the prestigious National Science Olympiad known as the OSN competition at the North Sulawesi provincial level for high school students, MIS became the school with many passers to gain highest points in the OSN 2022. They are Jesslyn Widjanarko in Earth studies, Miracle Gunarsih in Physics, and Benedict Tjia in Chemistry. Jesslyn Widjanarko felt deep gratitude saying, “I didn’t anticipate reaching the national level, but I am grateful and proud to have advanced this far in the competition. I will no doubt work harder for the national level”. Jesslyn, who has loved science since middle school, admitted that her preparation for the National level was more rigorous. She spent more time studying through continuous practice and reading of additional books, articles, and other sources to hone her thoughts, while simultaneously keeping a healthy lifestyle and getting enough sleep.
Jesslyn claimed to have felt the help from MIS especially from the Administrators and teachers preparing for the Olympics. She mentioned “School administrators and teachers are dedicated and honorable. They care about the concerns of all students.’ Jesslyn advised her friends to believe in themselves and said, “Know that you are better now than you were yesterday. Even when others are unwinding, work hard in your studies because you will benefit from it.”
The hard work of the three MIS students to bring out the good name of MIS resulted with Benedict Tjia being awarded with Honorable Mention at the National level in the OSN Chemistry competition. Another achievement was also gained by Genadine Porajow, a 12th grade High School student. She garnered the title of Exemplary Young Female GMIM Model Student 2022. Moreover one of MIS alumni, Audrey Vanessa Susilo was officially crowned as Miss Indonesia 2022. Audrey has attended MIS since elementary till high school. While at MIS, Audrey was known as a talented, smart, and proactive student in every school activity. She was also elected as the president of Middle School SA officer. Support and prayers were given by all MIS residents to Audrey who will later represented Indonesia at the Miss World 2022 event. The series of achievements that have been achieved by MIS from students and even alumni are expected to spur the enthusiasm of other students to work and to be productive in learning to manifest the desired goals.
