Since the official establishment of the Covid-19 vaccination by the Ministry of Health for children aged 12-17 years, Manado Independent School (MIS) has contributed to the success of this program for its students in the context of overcoming and breaking the chain of the spread of COVID-19. The purpose of the vaccination program created by MIS is to prioritize and care about the safety and even the health care of its teachers, employees, and especially its students. In addition, this program also provides security and comfort for students to remain calm and happy for the face-to-face reopening.
The vaccination of MIS students is held on August 18, 2021 for the first dose and September 15, 2021 for the second dose. The vaccination activity at MIS Gallery receives support and assistance from the health team of the North Sulawesi Provincial Health Office. The requirements that must be complied with by the students who should participate in vaccination are those aged 12-17 years, each student must bring a family card, and that they are accompanied by their parents. Very friendly and helpful are the health team members of the North Sulawesi Health Office when giving directions to MIS students in registering, asking and answering health questions, checking body health, and injecting the vaccines. One of the team members involved in this activity, dr. Feibi Siwi is pleased with the enthusiasm and cooperative attitude of the MIS students, “During the vaccination, MIS still adheres to health protocols, and provides vaccination sites in an open space.”
Furthermore, dr. Feibi says that the Covid-19 vaccination is using the Sinovac vaccine which has been tested to be safe with a vaccine dose of 0.5 ml. Vaccine injection is given 2 times with an interval of 28 days. “For reactions or symptoms after getting this vaccination, of course it is different for each person; there is heat / fever, feel joint pains. But there are also those who do not experience symptoms after getting vaccinated. Therefore, all students who have received vaccinations must get enough rest, do not stay up too late, keep their immune system healthy by eating nutritious food, and even though they have been vaccinated, they must continue to carry out health protocols,” added dr Feibi.
Sharing his experience after taking the first vaccination, Valerian The 11th grade student of MIS High School expresses his anxiety before being vaccinated, but everything disappears after being vaccinated because it is not as bad as he thinks and has not experienced any significant side effects. When asked why he wants to be vaccinated, he says that wanting to be vaccinated is the same as taking part in reducing the spread of Covid-19, “Maybe we cannot do as much as health workers and others, but by wanting to be vaccinated, we take part by supporting and being involved in this program”. Valerian also extends his gratitude to MIS for making it easy for students to get vaccinated, and the health workers who help, “MIS provides a large place, with complete facilities. In this way, the vaccination process can run well, and also maintains the existing health protocols. For those of you who do not want to be vaccinated, I encourage you to get vaccinated immediately, so that we can also take part in reducing the spread of Covid-19, not only protecting ourselves, our family, but also for many people. So come on, what are you waiting for, immediately take part in this vaccination,” he concluded. The Director of MIS and followed by administrators and teachers thank the North Sulawesi Provincial Health Office, especially the Head of the Health, dr. Debie Kalalo, M.Sc.PH who helps to organize the vaccination program for MIS students, and also thanks for the commitment and cooperation of all students by participating in the vaccination program at MIS. It is mandatory to all students who have been vaccinated to continue to apply the health protocols (wash hands, wear masks, maintain distance, stay away from crowds, and reduce mobility).
